D7.1003 Tonnage tax—qualifying conditions: general rules

A qualifying company is one that is within the charge to corporation tax in the UK, and 'operates' (D7.1003A) 'qualifying ships' (D7.1004) that are 'strategically and commercially managed' (D7.1004A) in the UK1.

A qualifying group is a group that contains one or more qualifying companies2.

A 'tonnage tax company' or 'tonnage tax group' means a company or group in relation to which a tonnage tax election has effect3. A group election has effect in relation to all qualifying companies in the group4. A non-qualifying company in a tonnage tax group will not be regarded
