D2.217 Group relief surrenders—current year trading losses

A company may surrender, by way of group relief, any trading losses incurred in the surrender period, computed in the normal way. It does not include a loss brought forward which arose in an accounting period that started before 1 April 2017 nor does it include1:

  1.  

    •     a loss from a trade which is not carried out on a commercial basis and with a view to the realisation of profits (except where the trade is carried on in the exercise of statutory functions)

  2.  

    •     farming and market gardening losses which have been disallowed
