C2.302 Expenditure qualifying for indexation allowance

Indexation allowance is not available to individuals, trustees and personal representatives for disposals on or after 6 April 2008. It continues to be available to companies but is frozen from 1 January 2018 so for disposals on or after this date the allowance is calculated up to December 2017.

Indexation allowance can only be given in respect of relevant allowable expenditure1, which means expenditure allowable in computing the unindexed gain:

  1.  

    (a)     as acquisition expenditure2, or

  2.  

    (b)     as improvement expenditure3, or

  3.  

    (c)     as expenditure on preservation of title4, or

  4.  

    (d)     as incidental costs of acquisition5
