C1.308 Disposals for no consideration

A disposal made for no consideration in money or money's worth is nonetheless a disposal for capital gains tax purposes. Chargeable gains or allowable losses may arise accordingly. In a number of circumstances, such as the making of a gift, the market value of the asset at the date of the disposal is deemed to be the consideration and gains or losses are computed accordingly1.
