B5.652 Mines and quarries

The same basis of assessment applies in respect of both mines and quarries (see B5.651). Expenses incurred in obtaining planning permission for a quarry are of a capital nature and accordingly are not deductible in computing trading income for corporation tax purposes1. However, such expenditure may qualify for tax relief under the mining capital allowance provisions (see B3.406).
