A3.104B HMRC's help and support for taxpayers

HMRC has published a briefing outlining the help and support it offers taxpayers in difficult circumstances1. Over the coming 12 to 18 months HMRC will extend its 'needs extra support' (NES) service beyond help with tax debts, to those undergoing tax investigations.

HMRC has trained contact centre advisers to identify customers who need extra help above and beyond that which it is already providing. This includes:

  1.  

    •     passing customers to a specialist team who can resolve all tax queries in a single call

  2.  

    •     taking advice from experts from within HMRC to ensure customers
