8.4     Tax audits

Tax audits are part of IRBM's compliance work and it sets out a tax audit framework. Audits involve the examination of a taxpayer's records to determine if the right amount of income has been declared and the right amount of tax has been calculated and paid in accordance with tax laws and regulations.

The selection for an audit is based on several factors including:


    •     risk analysis


    •     third party information


    •     industry


    •     specific groups of taxpayers
