2.2.4 Worker's Accident Compensation Insurance
The provision of accident compensation by the employer is mandated in law (Labour Standards Law, Ch VII). Therefore, the provision of this insurance cover for employees is compulsory and provides several benefits in the event of a work-related illness or accident.
The scheme is funded only by employer contributions. The rate depends on the risk of the industry and ranges from 0.25% (for the finance sector) to 8.8%.9% (mining industry). A typical rate would be 0.3%. There is an additional premium of 0.002% added for asbestos related illnesses (Jetro.go.jp).
