9.2     Work visas

In order for someone who is not an Australian citizen to work in Australia, they need an Australian visa relevant to the work they intend to perform. A large variety of short stay, temporary and permanent work visas are available.

Generally speaking, the Federal Government's policy regarding employer sponsored visas is that job opportunities for Australian workers take priority with overseas workers complementing rather than displacing Australian workers.

Employer sponsored visas are generally subject to the following conditions:

    •     Sponsored workers must be both paid at market rates and paid a minimum annualised salary of AU$53,900.
