V7.160 VAT deregistration—transfer of a going concern

Another important consideration is whether deregistration is required because a business is being sold or transferred as a going concern. In such cases, the transfer of stock and assets is outside the scope of VAT, with no output tax payment needed by the seller.

One requirement for a transfer of a going concern is for the new owner to be VAT registered, but there are other important rules to follow as well. See V7.175–V7.188.
