V7.133 Applying for VAT registration

When a business applies for VAT registration, it is the legal entity that must apply to register for VAT. The majority of applications to register will be made by either a sole trader, a partnership or a limited company and most applications will now be completed online.

Standard paper applications should be sent to the national registration unit (currently based at Crown House, Birch Street, Wolverhampton, WV1 4JX) and the business must be registered from its principal place of business (it is not acceptable to register the address from an accountant's office or postal address).
