V22.104 Aggregates

The legislation defines 'aggregate' as being any rock, gravel or sand, together with any substances which either naturally occur with it or with which it is incorporated1. Interestingly, 'rock' is further defined as not including 'any rock contained in a quantity of aggregate consisting wholly or mainly of gravel or sand'2. Spoil, waste, off-cuts and other by-products resulting from:


    •     the cutting of rock to produce stone with one or more flat surfaces (such as dimension stone and masonry products)


    •     any process by which an industrial mineral (see below) is extracted from an aggregate, or
