iPad app created that allows consumers to draft their own will anywhere, anytime.
LONDON, 15 November 2012 – LexisNexis UK (www.lexisnexis.co.uk), a leading provider of content and technology solutions, today announced the launch of its “Where there’s a will” campaign to highlight the importance of leaving a will. This will include the introduction of an iPad app that allows people to create their own will, and the use of social media to raise awareness.
LexisNexis made the decision to launch the campaign after commissioning two pieces of research on the topic. The first found that 66% of people do not have a will, putting their final wishes at risk, while 44% of respondents without a will said that they “hadn’t got round to it yet”. The second piece of research revealed that a major reason for not making a will was cost, with 48% of people saying that it is too expensive. Although writing a will is the best way to make sure your estate is passed on to family and friends, almost 40% of people said that they knew of a family member who had died without doing so.
Julian Morgan, LexisNexis UK head of automation services, said: “It’s a sensitive issue, but if people don’t leave a will it can cause a lot of additional, and unnecessary, heartache for loved ones. As well as raising awareness of this, we’ve built the LawyerLocator Will Writer app. Users can create their will while waiting for a train, meeting or wherever convenient. Not only is it about making people's lives easier, it’s about providing great ease of access to legal services. Our new app removes many of the complexities of writing a will and uses a simple question and answer process to produce a version tailored to each user's needs at minimum cost.”
LawyerLocator Will Writer is free to download and allows people to create their last will and testament following a simple step-by-step questionnaire. Users can preview their will before purchasing and are then able to have it reviewed by one of LawyerLocator’s trusted lawyers, or any other lawyer of their choice.
Julian Morgan added: “Will writing is a largely unregulated market, which can lead consumers to create unreliable DIY wills or to be left open to abuse by rogue businesses. With the LawyerLocator Will Writer app, users can also use the LawyerLocator site to locate a lawyer to review the final document. The quality standard of LexisNexis and LawyerLocator also provides reassurance that the document used to create these last will and testaments has been developed by qualified lawyers.”

Two surveys were conducted. The first interviewed 1000 respondents and the second two thousand. The research was carried out by Lightspeed in 2011 and YouGov in 2012 respectively.
