LexisNexis Announce the Executive Business Programme for In-House Counsel in Partnership with Cranfield School of Management

World-class executive development programme for in-house lawyers to expand commercial acumen, strategic thinking and leadership skills

LONDON, 16 October 2012 – LexisNexis UK (, a leading provider of content and technology solutions, today announced the launch of the Executive Business Programme for In-house Counsel developed in partnership with the Centre for Customised Executive Development at Cranfield School of Management. This part-time modular course, which is accredited for 62 CPD hours by the Solicitors Regulation Authority, is now open for applications for the January 2013 intake.

The development of the programme incorporated extensive research into the work and perceptions of in-house lawyers across financial services, manufacturing, telecoms, construction, public sector, transport, oil and gas industries. Valuable insights from this extended study led to the “Commercial Counsel” principle—an approach that will equip in-house lawyers with skills recognised by commercial leaders as essential to business.

Mark Smith, LexisNexis UK Director of In-House, said: “We are delighted to enable in-house counsel to develop their professional skills at this top level. Being able to demonstrate the value-add of in-house legal teams is increasingly vital in any senior in-house role.”

The programme has been designed with all the benefits of Cranfield’s experience as a leading executive educator. Participants accelerate their learning by avoiding theory laden ‘management speak’ and focusing on the practical application of proven management tools to the real business challenges they currently face in their own organisation. During the ten month programme, they are supported by Cranfield’s world leading networked learning approach as they build their capabilities and see immediate results.

Paul Hughes, Director of the Executive Business Programme for In-house Counsel at Cranfield School of Management, said:  “This is the first customised in-house programme of its kind in the U.K. and addresses what in-house lawyers need to develop to deliver the greatest value to their organisation.  Using a blended learning approach, delegates apply learning to their own organisation in a number of work-based projects.”
