Delegates Impressed by LexisNexis'
Refreshing New IT Conference
London 12 October, 2009 - The first event of its kind, the inaugural Butterworths Alternative Legal IT conference at Pennyhill Park in September, was very well received. The conference offered mid-market law firms a voice to discuss issues of direct interest and relevance to them, with strategies for managing outsourcing and the impact of the LSA featuring strongly in debate.
Delegates came from a wide cross-section of firms from all over the UK. The speaker panel reflected the diversity of firms represented and included managing partners, CEOs, COOs and IT Directors from organisations such as Wright Hassall, Brodies, Cobbetts, Davenport Lyons, Thomas Eggar and DMH Stallard.
Simon Clarke, IT Services Manager at Goodman Derrick said “There were a range of interesting topics focused at the small to mid-tier firms”. This sentiment was echoed by a number of other delegates including Linda Webster, Head of IT at Wedlake Bell, who described it as “Very relevant for medium sized law firms – an excellent conference”.
Inevitably the potentially revolutionary effect of the Legal Services Act on the profession and the impact of the current economic climate were a particular talking point. It was encouraging to hear constructive discussion on how the adoption of appropriate technology could help mitigate the effects of these pressures on mid market firms. The roundtable discussion format proved particularly popular with the table hosted by Angela McMahon, IT Support Manager at Mishcon de Reya, on the pros and cons of outsourcing, attracting strong interest.
Many delegates commented on how refreshing it was to hear from an all new speaker line-up and how much they enjoyed meeting like-minded professionals in a relaxed and convivial environment. Steve Sumner, Director of IT at Taylor Vinters, summed it up: “Great use of time, great bunch of people and great venue”.
LexisNexis would like to thank the speaker panel and sponsors for all their support and commitment and looks forward to another successful conference in 2010.
