The SRA Standards and Regulations in force from 25 November

I would like to remind you that the SRA Standards and Regulations are in force from 25 November 2019. They replace the 2011 SRA Handbook and contain the SRA’s regulatory requirements, which apply to the firm and all our staff.

The changes represent an evolution, not a revolution, in legal regulation, but there are still a number of changes you need to be aware of, including:

  1. revised SRA Principles, which apply to everyone in the firm—including non-solicitors

  2. a new Code of Conduct for Solicitors, RELs and RFLs, which applies to all solicitors, registered European lawyers (RELs) and registered foreign lawyers (RFLs) regulated by the SRA

  3. a new Code of Conduct for Firms, which applies to the firm, the [partners OR members OR directors] and our compliance officers

  4. new breach reporting requirements

  5. new Accounts Rules, which have prompted a number of changes to our accounts procedu
