Letter to employees notifying them of impending introduction of automatic enrolment

Dear [name]

Pension scheme—automatic enrolment

You have probably read or seen news that the Government has introduced a new law requiring all employers to enrol their workers into a pension scheme, which meets certain minimum criteria, unless they are already members of such a scheme. This letter explains what auto-enrolment is and how it affects you.

Auto-enrolment is being introduced over several years, starting with the biggest employers and applies to persons that the law calls 'jobholders'. Employers are allocated a 'staging date', that is their starting date, in accordance with the number of workers in their PAYE scheme. Our staging date will be [date], and therefore we will enrol automatically all our jobholders, who earn over £10,000 a year, and are aged 22 or over but under the state pension age, into the [name] Pension
