MLex: Major tech companies hosting user-generated content will face duty of care obligations under a new strict online harms regime proposed by the UK government. The new rules will introduce an independent regulator with enhanced powers to impose fines of up to £18m ($US 24m) or 10% of global turnover, whichever higher, or even block companies from operating in the UK if they keep illegal content online.
