Article summary

The Justice and Home Affairs Committee has published a letter to the Home Office Minister, Kevin Foster, regarding the Life in the UK test which is undertaken to obtain citizenship or Indefinite Leave to Remain in the UK. The Committee has recently completed a review of all elements of the test, including the handbook, test format, candidates experience of the test centres and sought advice from academics and those that have completed the test previously. The Committee has called on the government to review the Life in the UK test immediately, appoint an Advisory Group to conduct a more extensive review and to reintroduce taught courses as an alternative for the test for those that might find the test particularly challenging.
