Article summary

The Chief Planner at the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities has written to local planning authorities to inform them that Active Travel England (ATE) is seeking stakeholder views on ATE's role as a centre of excellence for planning for active travel infrastructure and in its capacity as a statutory consultee on major applications within the consenting regime. ATE is a new Executive Agency to support the government's ambitious strategy for walking and cycling - as set out in Gear Change 2020. This survey forms part of the Department for Transport's pilot programme of engagement with stakeholders and local authorities as to how ATE can best support local planning authorities in promoting active travel in the planning system, boosting cycling and walking and delivering a healthy, safe and carbon-neutral transport system.
