IP & IT analysis: In this judgment, the judge assessed the level of damages payable to the claimant in a libel case pursuant to an offer of amends made under sections 2–4 of the Defamation Act 1996 (DeA 1996). He awarded £9,000 in damages. This figure was arrived at by taking a figure that would represent fair compensation for the claimant and discounting it by 25% to take account of the offer of amends.
