The Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (Defra) and the Forestry Commission have announced that over £12m has been provided through the Nature for Climate Fund to plant trees across England. Funding will be allocated to successful applicant projects across four funds in support of tree planting efforts and towards natural regeneration as well urban greening projects. Defra and the Forestry Commission have also announced the Woods Into Management Forestry Innovation Fund which will allocate nearly £700,000 to 17 projects aiming to restore biodiversity across vulnerable habitats and to help woodlands with climate change adaptation. Defra states that such projects will explore novel methods of production such as the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in advanced propagation systems.
