EU dispute resolution bodies press regulators to raise awareness of users’ rights

MLex: A network of certified and aspiring out-of-court dispute-settlement bodies has urged national authorities tasked with enforcing the EU’s Digital Services Act (DSA), as well as the European Commission, to improve public awareness of users’ rights to challenge content moderation decisions under the DSA. The bodies cited low visibility and the limited uptake of the appeal option provided under the law.

Ireland—Supreme Court annual report shows 14 percent rise in applications

The Supreme Court of Ireland's 2024 annual report reveals a 14% increase in applications for leave to appeal, with 183 applications resolved. The court granted 27% of applications while reducing determination waiting times to 2.75 weeks from 4.5 weeks in 2023. Criminal law and immigration judicial review comprised the largest categories at 11% and 10% respectively. The report also announces a pilot project to broadcast oral arguments and new protocols for judgment production.

High Court orders Virgin Media to reform contract termination practices following ComReg investigation

The Irish High Court ruled on 21 March 2025 that Virgin Media failed to comply with regulatory obligations regarding contract termination procedures. The Court ordered Virgin Media to revise its practices to prevent disincentivising provider switching, including removing instructions for retention activities against customer wishes and implementing immediate cancellation processing. The company must retrain all agents within 8 weeks and eliminate financial incentives for non-compliant save activities. The Commission for Communications Regulation (ComReg) will update its regulatory guidance accordingly.
