Ireland—Dublin Circuit Court Combined Civil Office announces Christmas opening hours

The Courts Service of Ireland has released the Christmas opening hours for the Dublin Circuit Court Combined Civil Office for the 2024-2025 holiday period. The office will operate on reduced hours from 24 December 2024 to 31 December 2024, opening from 9:30am to 12:30pm on specified dates. Full closures are scheduled for 25-26 December 2024 and 1 January 2025. The office will return to its normal operating hours from 2 January 2025.

NGO NOYB is qualified to bring redress actions in EU courts

MLex: The digital rights NGO NOYB has now been granted the approval to bring redress actions across the EU. This means that many users can be represented by NOYB on a non-profit basis, allowing them to seek redress, such as non-material damages, when their personal data is unlawfully processed.

MLex: Social media giant Meta Platforms has challenged the Irish Data Protection Commission’s (DPC) decision to fine it for inadvertently storing some passwords in plaintext on its internal systems without cryptographic protection or encryption, MLex has learned.

COP29 round-up—22-24 November 2024 (Closing Plenary and Adoption of Decisions)

On 22 November 2024, the last scheduled day of the 29th Conference of the Parties of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) ran into overtime, after draft finance texts drew criticism from all sides. On 23 November 2024, the conference was extended for an additional day as negotiations remained unresolved, with the closing plenary finishing early on 24 November 2024. Key outcomes included the submission of the first Biennial Transparency Reports (BTRs), the agreement of the Baku Finance Goal (BFG) and the adoption of a New Collective Quantified Goal (NCQG) on Climate Finance. Additionally, agreements were reached on global carbon market rules and support for national adaptation plans in least developed countries. The conference emphasised the need for countries to develop comprehensive climate plans ahead of COP30, incorporating targets for renewable energy expansion and fossil fuel transition.
