AIG largely beats claim over failed Italy property scheme

Law360: AIG is not liable to pay the bulk of nearly €3.5m to investors in a failed Italian real estate project, as a judge found on 12 February 2025 that the insurance policy of a defunct Italian firm does not cover negligent advice by its predecessor.

QIC denies COVID-19 cover for Franco Manca owner

EIOPA launches consultation on AI governance and risk management Opinion for insurance sector

The European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority (EIOPA) has launched a consultation on its Opinion regarding Artificial Intelligence (AI) governance and risk management in the insurance sector. This Opinion provides guidance on interpreting and implementing insurance sector provisions concerning AI systems, excluding those classified as prohibited or high-risk under the EU Artificial Intelligence Act (Regulation (EU) 2024/1689) (AI Act). It aligns with international initiatives and emphasises a principle-based approach, setting supervisory expectations for responsible AI use. Key principles include a risk-based approach, fairness, clear roles, explainability, data governance, and documentation. Responses are sought by 12 May 2025.
