Project set up

This is the most important phase of the project, as it lays the foundation for the rest of the project. It is also the phase that is most likely to be rushed through because everyone involved with the project will be keen to 'get on with it’ and start making plans.

  1. Identify the key players and manage their expectations. There are many people who will be interested in the way the project is run and in its outcome. It is important that these people are identified and their expectations are established.

    1. The project sponsor (the client). Every project has a sponsor but it is not always obvious who that person is. As a guide, the sponsor is the person who:

      1. specifies the purpose of the project and agrees the terms of reference

      2. is prepared to be involved as the project rolls out

      3. has the final say in determining if the project is a success

      4. pays the
