Related legislation in England and WalesThe MRV Regulation does not require implementation by Member States as its provisions are directly applicable.
Member States need to set up a system of penalties for failure to comply with the monitoring and reporting obligations.
Merchant Shipping (Monitoring, Reporting and Verification of Carbon Dioxide Emissions) and the Port State Control (Amendment) Regulations 2017, SI 2017/825, in force from 1 October 2017. Subsequently amended in light of Brexit.

Brexit impact

11 pm (GMT) on 31 December 2020 marks the end of the Brexit transition/implementation period entered into following the UK’s withdrawal from the EU. At this point in time (referred to in UK law as ‘IP completion day’), key transitional arrangements come to an end and significant changes begin to take effect across the UK’s legal regime.
