Autumn 2020Pension Schemes Bill 2020

The Pension Schemes Bill 2019, originally published on 14 October 2019, fell away on 6 November 2019 when Parliament was dissolved as a result of the calling of the general election of 12 December 2019. However, following the re-election of the Conservatives into government, it was confirmed in the Queen's Speech of 19 December 2019 that the Pensions Schemes Bill would be reintroduced in early 2020, albeit with some ‘refinements’.

The new Pension Schemes Bill 2020 was reintroduced in the House of Lords on 7 January 2020 and published the following day, together with explanatory notes.

The Bill completed its passage through the House of Lords on 15 July 2020 and was presented to the House of Commons for its first reading on 16 July 2020 (there was no debate on the Bill at this
