The Kickstart Scheme forms part of a range of government programmes that are available for employers who are considering hiring employees or offering work experience. The Kickstart Scheme provides funding to employers to create new six-month job placements for young people who are currently on Universal Credit and at risk of long-term unemployment. The scheme aims to support participants to develop the skills and experience they need to find work after completing the scheme.

It is available in England, Scotland and Wales.

Applications are now being accepted and, according to the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) guidance, employers can spread the start date of the job placements up until the end of December 2021.
