Section 1 of the Law Reform (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1970 (LR(MP)A 1970) deals with the legal consequences of termination of a contract to marry, and provides that engagements to marry are not enforceable at law, at LR(MP)A 1970, s 1(1) which provides that:
