The introduction of the Lifetime Individual Savings Account (Lifetime ISA) was announced in the March 2016 Budget. The Lifetime ISA will be available with effect from 6 April 2017 with the main aim of assisting those currently aged under 40 by offering a 25% government bonus on top of savings of up to £4,000 per year which can only be used to save for a deposit for a first home and/or to save for retirement.
