The Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 (Consumer Contracts Regs 2013), SI 2013/3134 apply where you enter into a retainer with a consumer client who you have not met. This Practice Note explains:

To have the benefit of cancellation rights under the regulations:

  1. your client must be an individual acting for purposes which are wholly or mainly outside their trade, business, craft or profession, and

  2. your retainer (which is a contract for services) must be a distance contract
