Case facts

Outline UK merger investigation into the completed acquisition by Breedon Aggregates of certain assets of Aggregate Industries UK Ltd. The CMA issued its final report on 09/04/2014, clearing the merger subject to remedies.

Parties Breedon Aggregates, a producer of heavy building materials, primarily serving the North, West and East of Scotland, the East and West Midlands, East Anglia, North Wales, Greater Manchester and South Yorkshire.

Aggregate Industries UK Ltd

Background Breedon acquired various assets from Aggregate Industries UK Ltd, including 11 aggregates quarries (of which six are active), four asphalt plants (including associated services for asphalt surfacing), seven ready-mix concrete plants plus two mothballed plants, and two concrete block factories. The acquisition was completed on 30 April 2013.

The main sites are in the Grampian, Tayside and Fife, Highlands and Hebrides regions of Scotland.
