18 December 2020ConsultationThe Law Commissions publish their third consultation document proposing a regulatory framework for automated vehicles. The consultation will run from 18 December 2020 to 18 March 2021.

The consultation document, which runs to 392 pages, contains detailed proposals that include a new self-driving vehicle safety assurance scheme and a way of clearly allocating responsibility between drivers, users, fleet owners and manufacturers. There is also a return to the concept of a ‘user-in-charge’, first suggested in the Law Commissions’ first consultation paper in 2018.
