What does Section 151 officer mean?
The officer responsible for the proper administration of the local authority's financial affairs under section 151 Local Government Act 1972.
Part VIII of the Local Government Finance Act 1988 (Financial Administration) contains important provisions concerning the 'chief finance officer', as section 114 designates this position. Section 113 of the 1988 Act requires the responsible officer to be a member of a specified accountancy body. Sections 114 to 116 of that Act contain personal corporate reporting provisions analogous to those of the monitoring officer in respect of potential unlawful expenditure, loss or deficiency or likely excess of expenditure over resources in any financial year.
