(3)     Payment for time off allowed

The right to take time off is the right to take paid time off (ERA 1996 s 59(1)). Since there is no limit to the amount of time off which may have to be granted (other than by application of the criteria of reasonableness), so there is no limit on the total amount of pay that may have to be paid. There is also no separate criterion of reasonableness. If the employer permits the time off to be taken (thereby in effect conceding reasonableness) there is a simple duty to pay for
