(4)     Cross-border rail service workers

A further category of workers for whom specific provision has been made by Directive is those working on cross-border rail services. The only workers within Great Britain for whom this is relevant are those operating the rail services that cross the Northern Ireland – Republic of Ireland border and the rail services that pass through the Channel Tunnel. In respect of the latter, such workers, or at least those based on the British side of the Channel, are covered by the WTR, but it has been found necessary to supplement the provisions of the WTR
