(4)     Adults and young workers

For the purposes of the WTR, 'workers' fall into two categories. An 'adult worker' is a worker over 18. A 'young worker' is a worker who is over compulsory school age, but under 18. There are specific additional provisions in the WTR applicable to young workers, which are referred to at the appropriate point in the text below; these represent the additional requirements of the Young Workers' Directive. WTR SI 1998/1833 reg 3(2) makes it clear that where there are specific provisions applicable only to young workers, the corresponding provisions for 'workers' apply
