The enforcement agency for the national minimum wage is HMRC who act on behalf of the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS). HMRC has created a dedicated team of enforcement officers, all of whom are appointed under NMWA 1998 s 13. A worker can complain to HMRC either through the ACAS helpline or directly by using an online complaints form, and the current policy of HMRC is to conduct an investigation in all cases, even if the worker wishes to remain anonymous.
