Contractual sick pay schemes will almost invariably set out the conditions governing eligibility for sick pay. Most schemes adopt a system of self-certification by the employee for the first seven calendar days of sickness, in line with the regulations governing statutory sick pay (see para [146]). Thereafter, the employee will typically be required to produce medical evidence in the form of a fit note (previously called a 'sick note') from a GP or other treating doctor.
