(1)     The statutory definition of wages

ERA 1996 s 13 prohibits an unauthorised deduction form the worker's 'wages'. The definition of 'wages' which is found in ERA 1996 s 27(1), is therefore crucial. As will be seen, the definition is a broad one, providing as follows:

''In this part “wages”, in relation to a worker, means any sums payable to the worker in connection with his employment, including:

(a)     any fee, bonus, commission, holiday pay or other emolument referable to his employment, whether payable under his contract or otherwise;

(b)     statutory sick
