Occasionally the question may arise which of two or more collective agreements applies—perhaps the choice is between a national or a local agreement. Normally the purpose of a local agreement is to supplement the national agreement and adapt it to local conditions, so that it is the local agreement which establishes the effective standard. In those circumstances, the natural inference is that the contract of employment incorporates the local agreement, or the national agreement as supplemented by the local one.
