Application forms should identify to whom the information is being provided, the use to which it will be put, whether or not the information will be verified by checking and they must be capable of being sent in a secure way. Only information relevant to the decision to recruit should be requested, and information about criminal convictions should only be requested if justified by the role in question. Details of any spent convictions must not be sought, unless covered by one of the exceptions under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (see Q [1]
