(3)     Contracts determinable upon events

The parties may agree that the contract of employment will automatically determine upon the happening or non-occurrence of some events (for example, the non-renewal of a funding grant or the completion of a particular project). There will be no breach of contract but there will be a dismissal for statutory purposes if the contract is not renewed on the same terms.

This too may thus be viewed as a form of termination by agreement, the agreement having been reached at the outset.
