(3)     Assessment notices

The ICO can issue written notices (assessment notices) to employers requiring them to permit the ICO to carry out an assessment of the employer's data protection compliance (subject to some restrictions) (DPA 2018 ss 146(1), 147). The assessment notice must state the consequences of failing to comply it. The assessment notice may require the employer to permit the ICO to do all or any of the following:


    —     permit the ICO to enter specified premises;


    —     direct the ICO to documents on the premises that are of a specified description;
