B.     Voluntary procedures

(1)     Introduction

Almost all larger employers, and many smaller, have adopted their own disciplinary and grievance procedures. Practitioners will be familiar with the very wide range of detail and complexity to be found in such procedures. There is no directly prescriptive legal framework for such procedures: content is essentially a matter for the particular employer, alone or in consultation with employee representatives. Three common features of procedures, however, merit comment.
