G.     Parliamentary staff

The precise status of staff employed in the House of Commons and the House of Lords is obscure since, in constitutional theory, the writ of the common law does not run in the precincts of the Palace of Westminster. Therefore, it seems that a servant of either House cannot, technically, be an employee at common law. That explains the fact that they are normally covered separately in the employment legislation.
