For the sake of completeness, it may be mentioned here that a complication arises in the discrimination legislation. This confusingly uses the word 'employment' (and, by adoption, 'employee'), but this is clearly in an extended form going beyond the normal meaning of 'employee' in employment law. The definition used is:

''employment under a contract of service or of apprenticeship or a contract personally to execute any work or labour …' (EqA 2010 s 83(2)).'
