The broad effect of the general charge to income tax1, read with the other provisions of the Income Tax Acts2, is to impose the tax on a person who is resident3 in the United Kingdom in respect of his income from every source wherever that source is situated4, and to charge a person not so resident in respect of his income from any source in the United Kingdom5.
