The term 'employment' is not exhaustively defined in statute, but it includes in particular:
(1) any employment under a contract of service;
(2) any employment under a contract of apprenticeship; and
(3) any employment in the service of the Crown1.
Unless otherwise stated, the term 'employment' is taken to include references to the holding of an office2. An office includes any position which has an existence independent of the person who fills it and may be filled by successive holders
